Happy New Year 2019! | Sonoma County, California Documentary Family Photographer

Writer's picture: Kimberly PascaleKimberly Pascale

Yeah, I know I’m a few weeks late but better late than never, right?!

2018 for Dragonfly Lifestyle Photography was a quiet one, but it definitely wasn’t an uneventful year by all means. It was full of a lot of personal growth, both in business and my personal life, and it made me finally decided on what I want to set my attention on.

As of the end of 2018, I will no longer be offering lifestyle or portrait sessions…of any kind. I came to realize, which in my heart I already knew, that my passion truly lies within documentary photography. I love how it just captures the pure emotions and interactions that a family truly has for one another. Something that lifestyle and portrait photography, try as they might, will never truly touch on. I’m excited to fully pour my heart and soul into documentary photography over this next year and beyond.

2018 brought me the opportunity to spend a full day with three amazing families. During these Day in the Life Sessions, I was with the families from the time they woke up to the time they went to bed and let me tell you friends…it was an experience that was life changing. Not only for myself as a photographer, but for those families as well. I was able to show them just how important this time in their lives are and why it is essential to have this experience and the images to look back on when their kids are grown. You can check out one of those Day in the Life sessions by going Here.

I also got to welcome two beautiful babies into this world during their first few days of life. In early 2018 I started offering Fresh48 sessions where I come to you after your baby is born and document those precious first hours of life. You can check out one of those Fresh48 Sessions by going Here. If you are expecting a new bundle of joy in 2019 and would like to book a Fresh48, contact me and let me know as soon as you can. Due to the nature of these sessions, space is limited.

During the months of October, November and December I start a special project called the Mommy Chronicles where my motivation was to get moms out from behind the camera and in front of it interacting with their families…showing the world and their children that they were there too. I gifted 10 families a Short Story session and over the course of those three months I was honored with meeting some amazing families and some really Bad Ass Mothers! Motherhood is hard, but these 10 amazing moms made it look so easy and you can truly see the love they have for their children and visa versa!

One of the benefits of offering the Mommy Chronicles during this time, I was able to capture holiday family traditions in the making. Traditions such as going to a Christmas tree farm in hunt for the perfect tree, decorating gingerbread houses and baking Christmas cookies. And because of this project, and documentary photography, these families will now have images of these moments to look back on for years to come. Keep in eye out on the blog and social media as I introduce you to these amazing mothers and their families over the next few weeks!

So, what’s in store for Dragonfly Lifestyle Photography for 2019? In April I will be offering Mommy and Me Mini-Short Story sessions just in time for Mother’s Day. And in December a Christmas Tree Mini-Short Story. Both sessions will be shot in a documentary style with no posing, no props and no direction from me at all. More details on those sessions to come as we get closer.

Also, this year I will start offering Business Branding stories where I’ll help local Sonoma County businesses tell their business story through photography branding. These sessions will cover your day to day business flow and highlight important aspects of your industry and interactions with your customers. You’ll be able to use these images for marketing materials and advertisements, which will prove an invaluable asset over time. If you are a business owner or know someone who is and would like to be involved with this, please contact me and let’s set up a time to chat!

Of course, my goal throughout the year will always be to continue to educate families as to why Family Documentary Photography is so important and why every family should do one (trust me, you’ll become addicted to them).

If you are ready to have a family photo session that is nothing like you’ve ever done before and will be nothing like all the other family photo sessions out there, then hit me up and I’d love to have the opportunity to tell your families story.

No two families are the same…why should your family pictures be?

Until next time.
