Capturing the Heart of Family Life: A Fresh Start

I’ve been thinking a lot about time lately. How quickly it passes. How, in the midst of juggling work and family, it slips away unnoticed. It feels like just yesterday my kids were small, and now, they’re heading into their teen years. This shift—both in their lives and mine—played a huge part in my decision to step away from my photography business for a while.

Taking a Step Back

As a working parent, there’s always this pull between giving your all to your family and trying to build something of your own. I’ve always loved being a photographer, especially the real, unscripted moments I get to capture for other families. But in the chaos of it all—building a business, balancing my needs, and trying to be present for my own children—it became clear that I needed a pause.

I didn’t step away because I fell out of love with photography; I stepped away because I needed to reconnect with why I started this journey in the first place: my own family. They’ve always been my "why." Watching my kids grow up has been both beautiful and bittersweet, and it's made me more determined than ever to document the moments that matter.

That’s when I knew I had to shift gears. I needed time to reflect, to step back from the hustle, and to truly understand what I wanted to bring to my work and my family.

Why I Love Documentary Photography

Documentary photography allows me to capture families messy, joyful, chaotic, and loving life. It’s about stepping into your world and letting the moments unfold naturally, just as they do in real life.

And let’s be honest, moms, how often are we really in the photos? We’re always behind the camera, making sure everyone else’s memories are captured. But those moments matter for us too. One day, our kids will look back and want to see us—not perfectly put together, not only in the "highlight reel" moments, but in the everyday ones. They’ll want to remember the way we laughed with them, how we held them, and all the simple moments in between.

That’s why documentary photography is so important to me. It’s not about making everything picture-perfect—it’s about showing up, being present, and capturing the beautiful, honest moments that make up your family’s story. These are the memories that last.

What’s New

So, after some much-needed time off, I’m excited to relaunch Kimberly Pascale Photography with a renewed passion and perspective. I’ve updated my website with never-before-seen images from sessions I documented over the course of two years. I wasn’t quite ready to share those stories back then, but now feels like the perfect time to bring them into the light.

There’s also testimonials where you can hear from families I’ve worked with—what their experience was like, and what these moments mean to them. And, I’ve expanded my About section, where I share more about my journey as both a photographer and a mom, and how my own family inspires everything I do.

Plus, there are more blogs coming soon where I’ll dive deeper into the world of documentary photography and share tips for making the most of your own family’s session. If you haven’t already, be sure to sign up for my newsletter so you don’t miss a thing!

Let’s Document Your Family’s Story

I know firsthand how quickly time passes, and I’d love to help you capture those real, fleeting moments with your family. If you’re tired of trying to make everything look picture-perfect, let’s embrace the beauty of what really matters—the everyday, the unposed, the honest moments that make up your family’s life.

It feels so good to be back, and I can’t wait to see what stories we’ll capture together.

With love, Kimberly Pascale
